Sharon Springs Loop - 25.6 miles |
||
| Difficulty - Moderate. Rolling hills. One, 400' climb. | ||
| From the intersection of Main and Grand Streets in
Cobleskill, head north on Grand St. (NYS Rt. 10). Bear left on to Elm St. and
continue north on Rt. 10. Continue on Rt. 10 passing through the hamlets of
Hyndsville and Janesville. The route is, generally, rolling with an uphill bias.
At 8.5 miles a short, 200' climb will get your attention. At 13.5 miles you
arrive in Sharon Springs at the intersection of NYS Rt. 10 and US Rt. 20. At the
corner, on the left, is a Stewarts convenience store if you need to refill bottles or grab
a snack. From Sharon Springs head east on US Rt. 20 - a right turn at the intersection. A small hill greets you immediately. Rt. 20 is a 4-lane, divided highway, but the shoulders are wide at the top of the hill and passage is safe. Traffic is light, and what there is frequently moves to the left lane to go by. At 18.5 miles NYS Rt. 145 intersects Rt. 20. There is a blinking yellow traffic signal at the intersection. Bear right, south on to Rt. 145. After a small descent the only significant climb begins. The 400' in elevation gain comes in various pitches over 2.5 miles. At 21.3 miles you reach the high point of the ride and a 4 mile descent begins to Cobleskill. At 23.5 miles you reach the hamlet of Lawyersville. Rt. 145 takes a left turn in Lawyersville for the final 2 miles back to Cobleskill. |
